Pupils of 50 Wandsworth schools suffer health risk due to traffic-related pollution

'Clean Air in London' (CAL) published a report this week showing that 1148 schools in London are within 150m of heavily trafficked roads. New scientific research indicates that children exposed to higher levels of traffic-related air pollution at school and home are at increased risk of developing asthma.Scientists say living near roads travelled by 10,000 or more vehicles per day could be responsible for some 15-30 per cent of all new cases of asthma in children; and of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and CHD (coronary heart disease) in adults 65 years of age and older.Simon Birkett, director of CAL, said: "The government and mayor Johnson must tackle an invisible public health crisis harming as many people now as the Great Smog did in December 1952. We need one or more additional inner low emission zones that ban the oldest diesel vehicles from our most polluted roads, and a massive campaign to build public understanding of the dangers of air pollution with advice on how people can protect themselves."In Wandsworth, whilst the main trunk roads are managed by TFL, the council also has a responsibility with regards to the road network that it manages. As the council starts to play a greater role in local health budgets, the burden of health impacts from air pollution on local residents will be a extra financial drain on the council. Jon Irwin, co-chair of Wandsworth Environment Forum, said: "Our 20mph campaign if implemented would result in less hard braking and acceleration which is known to reduce emissions. It would also encourage more people to walk or cycle for short journeys, which clearly would reduce emissions. Open Garden Squares Weekend – 11th and 12th June, 2011

The summer starts here as two gardens in Grove Park, Chiswick, open their gates to the public as part of Open Garden Squares Weekend. Are there any Wandsworth residents following Fred's episodes on the C+I Channel on Sky 553 on Sunday evenings? He has dealt with Christie of 10 Rillington Place, and 4 other infamous murderers. On Sunday May 29th at 9.00pm he is presenting the 1 hour drama/documentary dealing with Harold Jones the former Fulham, Putney and Hammersmith child killer and the suspect in many unsolved murders, including 8 women who were killed between 1959 and 1965 in the Hammersmith, Chiswick, Brentford and Kensington districts. Fred and Professor David Wilson have done a marvelous job on these documentaries. 20mph campaign for our residential streets

Afternoon all,This campaign has recently got started asking the council to consult with the borough on introducing a 20mph limit on all residential roads and local shopping streets. If it were implemented, it would not be through the introduction of more speed bumps. A general 20mph speed limit will mean:Fewer deaths and injuries on our roads.Safer for our children to walk or cycle to school.Less noise from speeding vehicles.Cleaner Air.Streets more pleasant to live and move around in and enjoy.This petition is supported by the following local voluntary groups in Wandsworth: Battersea Society; Putney Society; Wandsworth Cycling Campaign; Wandsworth Society; Wandsworth Environment Forum; Wandsworth Living Streets; Wandsworth Friends of the Earth.There is an e-petition currently live through the council website:http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/moderngov/mgEPetitionDisplay.aspx?ID=40A paper version is also available if needed. Former Coldstream Guard, Michael Turner.

Does anyone have any information about Michael Turner. He lived with 1964 Chiswick murder victim Mary Fleming and had 2 children with her. He lived with Mary at Pembridge Gardens, Kensington in 1959. In April 1962 while living at Powis Gardens,Notting Hill they had a daughter Veronica Turner. In 1963 they had a son named David Turner. Mary and Michael parted and Mary and the 2 children moved to 25 Geraldine Road, Chiswick. They then moved to 44 Lancaster Gate, Notting Hill but Mary was found murdered at Berrymede Road,Acton Green,Chiswick on 14th July 1964.Mary's daughter Veronica would love to make contact with her father Michael Turner. Fred Dinenage Murder Casebook.

1st of May is just around the corner. If you google Fred Dinenage Murder Casebook you will see plenty of links for the series of eight 1 hour documentaries, including a 30 second video preview. Towards the end of the clip you will see 2 photos of former Fulham, Putney and Hammersmith child killer and suspected Hammersmith nudes' killer Harold Jones. It now looks certain that Jones also stabbed to death former Putney resident Ignac (George) Ulycz on Sunday August 15th 1965. After Mr Ulycz' stabbing the killer ran nearly half a mile from the crime scene at Upper Richmond Road Putney and just seemed to vanish into Colinette Road. He didn't actually vanish, he retreated into 20 Colinette Road the home of psycho Harold Jones. Shortly after the murder Jones moved 4 miles away to Hammersmith, changing his assumed name of Harry Stevens to Harry Jones.The episode of Fred Dinenage Murder Casebook dealing with Harold Jones will be aired on the C+I Channel 553 at 9.00pm on Sunday 29th May 2011. Sometime next week aclaimed author and national newspaper journalist Nigel Blundell is producing a major feature for the Daily Mail dealing with atrocities committed in the 1950s and 1960s in the borough's just mentioned.
