I haven't worked out how to upload "gifs" onto the "free img hosting site".  Let's say that I chose a moving image that I like ..out in cyberspace...that has a URL ending in "gif". Normally I would  COPY that URL and PASTE it on in a Forum Reply box.If I wanted to upload that "gif" into the imgHosting site....how do I do it? Is it easier for someone to speak to me on the phone?

Jim, I haven't encountered this problem and I have uploaded a gif or two (still pictures). It has worked. But, I haven't uploaded a moving image.. so more checking to be done.... To the drawing board, tomorrow. Goodnight now.

Hi Jim, I put a Gif Animation into My Pictures and thenupload it in to Hosting.When down loading to place on Web site it comes outas a Jpg.I have emailed Hosting 3 weeks ago and still had no replyas to why a Gif goes in and jpg comes out?  So i C/P direct to web site Jim.

HughGoodo ..so you have e-mailed imgH for instructions.I understand what you have tried to do...and as you say we wan it to stay as a "Gif".Hopefully you will get a reply..they are helpful people.

I bet Richard can explain to us the difference in gif and jpg. I've read all about it but it goes in one ear and out the other!! I know gif is the higher quality (oh I hope I've got that right) and each time you save a jpg you lose some of the quality - well something like that..... Time to check the pond, 10pm here, maybe I'll see something..

Audrey, I always thought that jpg was for Pictures and a gif was for Animations?I emaild Hosting about the gif problem over a month ago so iam not to hopefull,i did say that a number off usurers arehaving this problem. See how it goes.

Freeimghosting say, in the Features table on their home page, that "Light" (free) account members have all images  converted to .jpg.  It looks as if you have to be a "Platinum" member to avoid this, but even then it may not work. Their Forum contains the following exchange of messages (at http://www.freeimghosting.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19 ) :"I have been trying to save moving Gif.'s but they change to jpg. with no movment. Advice please.""Thank you for reporting this error. I will report it to our programmer immedieately so we can resolve the issue."That was on 18 October.Do any of you have personal web space provided byyour ISP?  Blueyonder provide me with 30 MBytes free, but I didn't use mine until I produced some web pages recently. Having got used to uploading images to it, I've realised that for one-off Forum images it's easier than uploading to Fotopic.Let's see if an animated .gif file will work from there ...

Richard: yes that moving gif has arrived on site from your webpage!Hello everybody!As Francis,Richard and Audrey have said and know...the free membership at imgH has limitations on the size of picture that you can upload (800 x 600).  By paying the small quarterly fee to imgH ..which I do..one can upload 1600 x1200 sizes.On my computer..I started off 18 months ago with just MY PICTURES. About 4 months ago I had installed MICROSOFT OFFICE PICTURE MANAGER and this enables me to RESIZE and SAVE CHANGES easily...but I recall that recently we established that by doing that quality is lost..and... more importantly could never be recovered!So..what I have been doing recently...is not resizing on MOPM...but uploading the full size onto the imgH site (being a Platinum subscriber)..and then resizing on that site..and keeping two sizes there ..sometimes three if I'm experimenting.There is a facility to delete ones entries on the imgH website but I'm not sure if that registers in ones favour.. by adding to ones available space. When I posted the ugly Brentford Station containers picture..I had accidently copied the wrong size version from imgH. When I saw the whopping size I had posted on the Brentford site..I immediately returned to the imgH website and collected the smaller picture!So..on imgH, as a Platinum subscriber,I believe you can increase sizes..but I need to double check.Regarding uploading gifs..that another challenge..to keep the gifs moving!! (I agree with Hugh..that I always thought that jpg's related to pictures  and gif's to moving images.Richard did well to upload the moving gif onto his own website and reproduce it here.The uploading of gif's onto imgH would be helpful as a storage/library facility...but it also can be used as a hideaway if you don't want viewers to find out where you located the gif!!  That has not been my intention..but it could be for others!!My ISP is Pipex..and I'm sure there is a website facility on line waiting for me to utilise.... but so far I haven't ventured in that direction. But Richard has shown us that this could be the way forward..although I'd prefer to use imgH..to keep things simple!!Whilst on my soapbox..I wanted to mention that my son gave me another piece of Picture Software for my last birthday. Its called Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0. I installed it recently and I was able to upload some 4000!! pictures from MY PICTURE (singles and those in folders). I haven't worked it all out yet..but one useful facility on this Adobe Photoshop Album is being able to affix to each picture a TAG or many tags...just like the tags facility on FLICKr.

"Interesting to see your history Richard; maybe more interesting these days???"Not really; it's been absolutely fascinating all the way, and still is.  There was a great pioneering spirit in the early days, and a continual battle to force through new ideas despite unreliable hardware and bug-ridden software (much more so than today).Managing the team was always interesting too.  For example, during the Falklands War, the RAF said they wanted one of my staff to go abroad to install some equipment.  "Abroad? Where? What country?"  "Er, we can't tell you that."
